This could have been called The Pursuit Of Sadness. Don’t watch the trailer and don’t watch unless you’re in the mood to sob into your popcorn.
It’s good to see Will Smith play a role where he’s really suffering because he has that innate gloss that makes him seem infallible. He pulls it off without sacrificing likeability, but I would say that, because he’s my absolute favourite.
This slipped by big audiences in 2008 but it’s worth revisiting, it’s satisfyingly non-linear and unfolds at exactly the right pace. All the trailers are full of spoilers though so I would go straight for the feature presentation.
