I used to go out with a nurse and one time we were lying around and I told him (yeah, take that gender assumptions) that I thought Pixar should make a film where the hero is a white blood cell and the villain is a virus. It should all take place inside a body. It would be educational AND entertaining, I said. He got really excited and said he could help, being a nurse and everything, but I was like, I don’t want to write it, I just want it to exist so I can watch it.
Then one day a few weeks later I had a big deadline coming up so I decided it was important to make sure I’d seen every Bill Murray movie. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that not only does my body film already exist, it’s by the Farrelly brothers and it’s got Bill mother fucking Murray in it.
Shut the front door.
Osmosis Jones is half based in real-life. Bill Murray is a zoo keeper called Frank who doesn’t take care of himself, and his insides are an animated world called The City Of Frank, where Chris Rock is a white blood cell and Niles from Frasier is an aspirin (I know, right?). Together they are trying to fight off a virus that will kill Frank. It has classic inside-the-body jokes like ‘Mr Mayor (Frank’s brain), what do you say to all the hair cells recently laid off from the scalp? There will be plenty of new jobs for everyone, on the back.’
I guess some people might think this is a kids film but so what? So is Toy Story and everyone loves that shit.
You can watch the whole thing on YouTube right here, right now. Go on, don’t pretend you have anything better to do.
